Manchester City’s Tommy Booth was sent off against the Nigerian Army here in Lagos.
The Blues’ summer tour flared angrily in the closing stages of the Manchester team’s 2-1 win.
The referee ordered Tommy Booth off for arguing with him.
At that stage City were leading and with tension mounting, tempers flared as the Nigerians desperately tried for an equaliser. It was then that Booth was ordered off.
But his departure did not weaken City, who held on to their advantage.
The Armed Forces, winners of the West African Zone of the World Military Soccer tournament, had taken the lead through a free kick, and all City’s effort to level before the interval were thwarted by the heavy tackling of the home defence.
The Nigerian team were first to score in the 13th minute. Rodney Marsh scored an equaliser in the 71st minute and Joe Royle grabbed the winner three minutes later, only his second goal for City since his £200,000 transfer from Everton earlier in the season.
The City party were flying to Las Palmas today after their two-match tour of Nigeria. They return to Manchester on Saturday after a week’s holiday…
