The visitor’s included such notables as Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, George Best, Gordon Banks, Frank McLintock and Malcolm McDonald. The referee was no less a personage than Jack Taylor.
There was also a showbiz seven a side game in which the guest list included Bob Greaves, David Lloyd, Harry Pilling, Clive Lloyd, Gareth Edwards, Alex Murphy, Bernard Manning, George Roper, Jimmy Tarbuck and Bobby Johnstone.
Despite the highly impressive turnout, Ken doesn’t remember too much about the game other than that it all seemed to happen very quickly: “It all happened in a bit of a rush I remember. Still it was very nice to see all those famous faces turn out for me.”

Ken Barnes, a distinguished Manchester City career as player, coach and trainer behind him, will receive a £7,000 pay-off when his testimonial fund is finally wound up.
Barnes, now chief scout at Maine Road, today paid tribute to the 9,682 fans who paid almost £5,500 to see the Blues in an entertaining 4-4 draw against Don Revie’s All Star International XI last night.

I understood he was on holiday in Spain but that he would be returning to Manchester to play. He didn’t and that’s his business. All I can say is a big thank you to the stars who did play on my behalf.”
What a feast of goals they provided, too. Three down to City, the All Stars stormed back to lead 4-3 helped by characteristic goals from Denis Law, a close-in rebound, and Bobby Charlton, a thunderbolt free kick.
However, it was Joe Corrigan who really stole the show to prevent the All Stars from building a commanding lead in the first half.
Three times in two minutes he made superb saves to deny Charlton, Law and Willie Morgan…
