Dundee’s goal-scoring problems returned against English First Division outfit Manchester City in Spartan Stadium, San Jose, in the early hours of yesterday morning (British time).
The Dark Blues dominated proceedings, according to coach Jocky Scott, but couldn’t put the ball in the net and eventually lost out on penalties.
Lillis put Manchester City ahead from the spot in the first half. With 10 minutes left Robert Connor equalised.
“Connor’s goal was one of the best of the season” commented the Dens Park No.2. “Graham Harvey began the move inside the box, beating one defender before laying the ball back to Connor, who from 25 yards smacked it home with the inside of his left foot before the keeper could even move.”
Missing from the Dark Blues line-up were Bobby Glennie, John McCormack and George McGeachie, and their injury problems were further compounded during the first half of this game when Colin Hendry and Jim Duffy were involved in a clash of heads.
“Colin needed five stitches in a cut eye and will be out for a week,” revealed a disappointed Jocky Scott.
… A crowd of £3,056 turned out for the all-British clash which was part of a three-club tournamentalso including hosts San Jose Earthquakes.
