FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS, PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 7TH JANUARY 1989 The Cup game against Rotherham was on 15th January and the Blues were without Watson, Bell filling in. The game was goalless. City created the better chances but United ‘keeper McAlister was the visitors’ hero. It was he who saved well from Power after the break, and who frustrated Kidd's blockbuster on the hour. Bames provided a chance for Channon after McAlister parried the former’s shot with 6 minutes to go, but the ball sailed harmlessly over the bar.
