After a rip roaring start to the game by Portsmouth City gradually took control in a display which was arguably their best since victory at West Ham on the opening day of the season. There was an impressive full Premiership debut for Gelson Fernandes and City were unlucky not to snatch all three points when Vassell failed to connect correctly with Petrov's cross just one yard from the Pompey goal.
