Despite a side which included trialists Billy Telford and Tony Aveyard, and younsters Paul Power and keeper Hopkinson, City were still expected to easily beat Northern Premier League, Macclesfield. However the Blues struggled in front of goal and it was left to Telford to spare City's blushes.
