PETER GARDNER'S 'VERDICT' FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 17TH APRIL 1976 Two goals in two minutes took the wind out of City's sails after an hour's monopoly at Elland Road this afternoon. Up to the 62nd minute City had outplayed a Leeds side who were looking pale shadows of a once great team . But first, McNivern and then the virtually unknown Harris showed Leeds more experienced stars the way home, and the Blues were up against it. City's grip had looked firm with Keegan, Bell and Hartford, particularly impressive. Royle and Tueart were busy up front and there was solidarity at the back with Booth and Doyle letting little past them. McNivern's goal was a turning point, but full marks to City, they continued to show tremendous character and aggression in their valiant efforts to improve their abysmal away record.
