PETER GARDNER WRITING IN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS 10TH AUGUST 1983 Manchester City are reaching the climax of a pre-season tour that has so far resembled nothing more than a stroll through a variety of colourful West German parks. ... The opposition so far has been pitiful... "A waste of time," said McNeill after yet another game that had taxed his side no more than a Maine Road loosening-up session. But he added: "At least we are having match practice and scoring goals."
