PETER GARDNER WRITING IN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS 10TH AUGUST 1983 Manchester City are reaching the climax of a pre-season tour that has so far resembled nothing more than a stroll through a variety of colourful West German parks. ... The opposition so far has been pitiful... "A waste of time," said McNeill after yet another game that had taxed his side no more than a Maine Road loosening-up session. But he added: "At least we are having match practice and scoring goals." He warned: "The last thing I want is for the players to believe every game is going to be as easy as the first four have been." City last night beat Sinnsheim, a side of no more than social club standing, 4-1 to make it 16 goals shared by eleven players in four games so far. ... Watched by only a few hundred spectators on a tiny, tree surrounded ground... City's manager employed all of his outfield players. Now the time has come for him to start looking for a settled line-up to start the club's most crucial campaign in 20 years.
