FROM A JOHN MADDOCK'S ARTICLE IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 22ND APRIL 1989 It was one of those days when a 'keeper, in this case George Wood, could do nothing wrong, brilliantly saving close-range efforts from Barnes, Palmer and Hartford. On the one occasion he was beaten, Hartford's shot was cleared off the line by Barton. Both teams had played attractive football but Everton's finishing was terrible, Dave Bennett, sub for Booth, made his League debut for City.
