PETER GARDNER'S 'VERDICT' FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL What an incredible game! Two missed penalties and a player sent off highlighted a dramatic Turf Moor clash as City wrestled to overcome the twin problems of an uneven pitch and a desperate Burnley side fighting for First Division survival. It thundered to a crushing climax with Tueart twice missing from the spot, his first misses of the season.

Burnley, with Mike Summerbee outstanding against his old colleagues, added to the thrills and entertainment of a superb backs-to-the-wall battle, despite losing Thomson, sent off a minute before the break for kicking Tueart. Hartford, Oakes and Booth strove brilliantly to grasp the midfield authority for City, who piled on enormous pressure. Yet Burnley were always a threat on the break and City had to pull out the stops at times to keep Burnley at bay.
