Elano seals victory from the penalty spot

As a spectacle this game was a rather dull affair, but the 6,000 City fans didn't seem to mind as they anticipated a good Cup run was on. It was pretty tentative stuff throughout with neither side wanting to commit. And it was left until the last 5 minutes as City earned a contraversial penalty for a handball by Michalik. Elano cooly slotted home the spot kick and City were through to a Quarter Final meeting with Spurs.

WHAT THE PRESS SAID

It was an otherwise fortunate night for City, who progressed courtesy of a contentious 85th minute penalty that prompted outrage among Bolton's players and sparked a pulsating end to a cup tie that had been largely forgettable up to that point. James Ducker
