ROGER PALMER SCORES CITY'S FIRST GOAL

FROM AN ARTICLE 'TEN YEARS AGO...' BY JOHM MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 22ND OCTOBER 1988 City at Bumden Park were facing a team with the worst defensive record in the First Division. The Blues took an early lead through Palmer after a Sam Allardyce blunder, but Bolton equalised before the break, Frank Worthington skilfully holding the ball before chipping it across the box for Alan Gowling to nod in. Worthy himself gave the home side the lead 3 minutes into the second half, Watson stumbling in his challenge, but City roared back, having survived with two goal-line clearances, when Owen raced through to beat McDonough.
