THE GUARDIAN 7th August 1975 Newly promoted Blackburn Rovers fully deserved there victory, 1-0 over Manchester City in the Anglo Scottish Cup at Ewood Park last night. They made a lively start, Corrigan blocking shots from Metcalfe and Beamish and a header by Martin; but it was not until the seventieth minute that their superiority gained it's reward when Graham Oates headed home. For City, Royle headed over, Hartford had a free kick saved, and Jones stopped a fine header by Watson. In the second half Tueart hit the crossbar, but Blackburn bided their time well.
