A bleak week indeed for City. Wolves came to Maine Road and took home the points with a 3-2 win. It was supposed to be Steve Daley’s showcase game, but the exhibit looked somewhat flawed in contrast to the glittering Gray in the visitor’s attack.
Wolves opened the scoring through Gray (18 mins.), set up by Geoff Palmer, City equalising through the other Palmer on show, Roger, when Daley opened up the Wolves back four after 40 mins. But before the break, Hibbitt snapped up a half-chance from a Corrigan block to restore the Wolves’ lead.
Don’t blame Joe. He stopped the score becoming one of cricket proportions as Gray, Richards and Hibbitt tore open a fragile Blues defence. Caton thundered a 30-yarder against a post at the other end, Bennett went close, but it was 1-3 after 55 minutes after Caton donated the ball to Daniel who scored from the edge of the penalty area.
Deyna made the score slightly more respectable in the dying minutes.
