PETER GARDNERS VERDICT IN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 3RD MARCH 1973
Sloppy City crashed to a humiliating defeat at Molineux, where Wolves cashed in on a side reeling from a cup hangover to score an avalanche of goals.
It was a disgraceful display by the Blues, who had no answer to the drive and marksmanship of Derek Dougan and the highly rated John Richards.
Without Mike Summerbee and Francis Lee City were only a shadow of the side that had played so well in recent months. It was a nightmare for Mike Brennan to make his League debut on such an occasion, for no City player emerged from this cruel mauling with his reputation untarnished.
my first match . john Richards scored a hattrick
And mine for my 10th Birthday
I saw this game as a Wolves season ticket holder at the young age.
The Wolves scorers that afternoon were Derek Dougan (3) and John Richards (2).
My first match with my dad, sister, sister boyfriend and his dad, been wolves supporter since then.Travel to the game in a Ford Escort MK1 those were the days.
Think it was Richards hat trick & dougan 2. 5-0 at half time all the goals at the south bank end. Pitch was abysmal. Wolves also had a 6th goal disallowed also in the first half.
This was my first trip to Molineux with a Swindon based boys FC, Raleigh Rovers and i was hooked on the Old Gold and Blacks….
I lived in Manchester and supported City we visited my Nans regularly who lived on three runs lane Fordehouses . Ithink this was a night match , I remembe going with my Uncle and sitting in the rafters in the huge stand . We got hammered by a very good Wolves team .
