JEFF HODGSON WRITING IN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 3RD APRIL 1982
Manchester City missed their chances and paid the price against West Ham at Maine Road this afternoon.
City, searching for points that could take them into Europe next season, lost 1-0 to West Ham after letting the Londoners off the hook in the first half.
The biggest culprit for City was skipper Paul Power, who headed over the bar with only ‘keeper Phil Parkes to beat.
Kevin Reeves also squandered a clear chance as City made heavy weather of their attacking game.
But the Blues paid for their carelessness when West Ham broke away to score through Paul Goddard after 79 minutes.
A few things I remember.
Being confronted by ICF types outside before the game and some crowd trouble in the bench part of the main stand near the Platt Lane end.
Oh and a load of Milky Way chocolate bars being thrown into the crowd before the match. We finished this season so badly it was grim.
