It is scarcely a good omen for Wembley that Manchester City have now been beaten by three Midland clubs since they their semi-final.
… Drawn up in a straight line, the City backs were very vulnerable to the long long pass. Again Krzywicki was clear in the twentieth minute. Dowd came out, but this time the Albion player had more room for manoeuvre. He slipped the ball past Dowd and it rolled into the net off the far goalpost.
…City did not learn the lesson. Ten minutes later Merrick nodded Browmn into an advanced position, and when the ball was turned towards goal Book diverted it past his own goalkeeper.
