FRANCIS LEE SECURES CITY’S FA CUP SEMI-FINAL PLACE
By the time we had got through to the quarter finals, Tottenham Hotspur were all that stood between us and a place in the semi-finals. That match still counts as the hardest of the lot. In previous encounters we had always given Spurs a good going over and they seemed to be afraid of us; but when they came to Maine Road for that cup tie their attitude was different from anything we had ever known.
Spurs came with a definite game plan and set out from the start to chase and harry us and I began to wonder if our run was going to come to a disappointing end. It looked odds on them at least taking us back to White Hart Lane for a replay, until, with something like ten minutes to go, Franny Lee turned a half chance into a goal. Pat Jennings got a hand to it, but he couldn’t stop it or us progressing into the semi-finals.
