Holding the League leaders on their own ground would have been a satisfactory achievement by any standards but it was all the more warming in view of the fact that it was done in the face of Spurs at the peak of form which has made them the talking-point team of the season…. The defence comes out of the match with the greatest credit and it was a happy augury for Bert Trautmann that he should have one of his greatest games only two nights before he was due to lead the Football League side against the Irish League at Blackpool…. His display at White Hart Lane would convince all those who saw it that the honour was fully merited on ability and not granted on past reputation or sentiment.
