A LATE WINNING GOAL FOR SUBSTITUTE DUNCAN DAVIDSON
FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 5TH OCTOBER 1988
… Swansea City, bottom of Division Two, were the visitors to Maine Road. They played with surprisingly good organisation at the
back and with alacrity and accuracy up front. The Blues looked jaded for much of the game despite Parlane’s fine goal from a Power cross after only 12 minutes, and they allowed the Swans to equalise through a Bob Latchford header 13 minutes later.
Power and McNab worked hard but created few real chances, and the visitors went near to claiming total points several times by breaking through the middle. But in the final minute, Lady Luck saw the Blues through. Substitute Duncan Davidson got on the end of a Tommy Caton free-kick and his shot went over the line via a post and then keeper Jimmy Rimmer’s shoulder.
