FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS, PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 27TH MARCH 1989
It was a much-shuffled City team that travelled to Swansea City on 7th April but the changes paid off as the Blues won 2-0, thus putting further nails in the Welsh club’s relegation coffin. City were back to top form and were only denied a higher scoreline due to
Swansea’s teenage ‘keeper, Hughes.
Both our goals came in the first half. Kinsey was involved in a good build-up on the left before he beat defender Evans and found Parlane who made no mistake with the simple chance (12 mins.). Then after 35 minutes May put in a pile driver which Hughes could only punch back out to May, who intelligently fed Kinsey for Steve to complete formalities. Further chances fell to Parlane, Smith
and Tolmie but Hughes’s bravery and acrobatics prevented an avalanche.
