Big spenders Manchester City are still grovelling for First Division points.
… City, with near £1.5M Steve Daley and £80,000 Stuart Lee on debut duty, slumped 1-0 at home to Southampton.
… The Blues made it clear from the start against Southampton that they were prepared to go forward. But they were caught on the rebound after 23 minutes, when Nick Holmes moved onto a through ball to beat Joe Corrigan.
It could have been different for City, but they were unlucky when Mick Robinson’s header from Daley’s cross bounced off the crossbar.
Then Southampton put up the shutters and there was little City could do about it.
And there was a further blow for City when Robinson was taken off after a collision with Terry Gennoe, Tony Henry substituting.
