CLIVE ALLEN SCORES THE WINNER

QPR were next on the agenda and City fielded a side which included three newcomers.
In Midfield, there was the long-maned Ian Bishop who had arrived from Bournemouth in a part-exchange deal for Paul Moulden…
In defence, there was Northern Ireland international Gary Fleming who had joined the Blues from Nottingham Forest.
And up front was the goal scoring genius, Clive Allen fresh from a stay with French club Bordeaux, and of whom great things were expected.
In the game under scrutiny, City had to first of all overcome the pressure they were under from earlier results, but they gradually settled down and were helped when Rangers suffered some cruel look at times.
It was a minute before the interval when Allen put one of his former clubs to the sword. Andy Hinchcliffe sent a pass to David White, who, in turn flicked the ball on to Allen. David Seaman was left grabbing fresh air.
Typically City, the Blues then adopted a kamikaze approach which would have led to their downfall if Rangers’ finishing had been anything like spot-on Andy Sinton hit a wonderful shot from the left which came back off the post.
However, the Blues hung on for their first win of the season…
