“I just can’t say how I do it, can I? All I did was tee it up on my right foot and hit it over my shoulder with the same foot.”
RODNEY MARSH ON HIS GOAL
FROM THE PRESS BOX
PAUL DOHERTY WRITING IN THE SUNDAY PEOPLE 29TH SEPTEMBER 1974
… He scored a magical goal, a right foot overhead kick after Doyle headed on a Summerbee corner… He’s probably the only player who could take a goal that way.
Marsh’s elation was tempered by his feelings for his old team-mates. “They’re very well organised” he said. “But I was disappointed they didn’t go forward as they used to.”
The goal came near the end, when Rangers were hoping that City’s erratic attack was spent. Their own efforts were even more limited.
This match was my first visit to England from Northern Ireland aged 14,
it was a school trip that included this game, my only previous match attendance was Celtic v Rangers in the company of my grandfather back in 1969. I have been a Chelsea fan since 1976, I just love football and really enjoy it when two teams give it there all to win. For me, City fans showing there appreciation for Frank Lampard was quite a moment, it showed that as football fans you cannot deny class.
