TONY COLEMAN IS SENT OFF AFTER PUNCHING AN OAKLAND PLAYER
We had Tony Coleman sent off after just five minutes. They had a few nationalities in their side, including a big Swede who kicked me and slugged me in the stomach when we were going for a ball together from a corner kick. I turned around and smacked him one and he went down like a sack of spuds. Okay, I wasn’t going to get away with it but I was angry the referee had done nothing about the Swede punching me first. I asked if he’d seen that incident, which I’m sure he had and he said “Why should I do anything?” then I really lost my rag and added “No fucking wonder you were refereeing pub teams before you came out here” And he had too. He was a landlord from Barnsley and that’s where he should have stayed in my opinion. Hardly surprising that I was on my way for an early bath too. we were down to nine men with just over ten minutes gone.
…As I wandered towards the tunnel, this bloke took a swing at me, god knows who he was, but I saw it coming and laid him out. Two in a minute, not how I’d imagined things would turn out. As I went into the empty dressing rooms my studs echoed around the room. From the bath around the corner Tony Coleman shouted “Is that you Doyley?” He must have reckoned it would only be a matter of time before I followed him down the tunnel.
