…We won a Worthington Cup tie at Notts County on Tuesday night that. speaking personally, I didn’t think should have been played.
Football is a very important part of life for many of us but it is not more important than life itself and the catastrophic events that happened in America on Tuesday surely affected each and every one of us.
I don’t know how my players felt about going ahead with the game but I certainly didn’t feel like getting involved in a football match and my chairman and the Notts County chairman felt the same way.
But we had no power to call off the game because the message from UEFA and the Football League was to play.
Life does have to go on and in the event we applied ourselves to the job in hand and came away with a 4-2 win after extra time. We showed plenty of character to rescue the game with a late equaliser in normal time and win it in the extra halfhour…
