A moment of history that City fans will want to forget was created tonight as a mere 3,007 fans turned up at Maine Road to witness the debacle that is the Auto Windscreen Trophy and even worse a much changed City side lost.
Joe Royle after the game said: “Whatever you say about the competition there was a game there to be won and there were people wearing blue shirts who should have shown the commitment to win it. City supporters deserve better. We were worse than poor.”
It was a record low crowd at Maine Road, 1,018 less than the previous record.
