… Manchester City were brought crashing back to earth by Liverpool.
… City, whose unbeaten run of six games had taken them to the fringe of the title race, were made to “kop” it 4-0 by a Liverpool side showing the form which brought them the championship.
… Kenny Dalglish tormented the Blues at Maine Road, and claimed goals in the 30th and 66th minutes, after David Johnson had opened the scoring.
And rampant Liverpool made it 4-0 through Ray Kennedy.
It was a sharp lesson for the City youngsters, who were unlucky not to strike when Mike Robinson’s blistering first half effort came back off the inside of a post.
