FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 10TH MARCH 1990
After a 0-0 draw with Norwich at home, the game marking Tueart’s return from the USA, the next match was at Anfield on 11th March. Still no elusive victory but the Blues made Liverpool battle every inch of the way for their eventual 2-0 win. Viljoen and Deyna returned to the side and lifted City but it was Corrigan who turned in a masterly display, much appreciated by the Kop. Joe made a series of great saves and wasn’t beaten until a cruel Caton own goal whizzed past him from a Johnson cross.
Then Tueart twice brought the best out of Clemence in the City fightback but eventually the Reds clinched matters when Souness scored his first of the season, created by Ray Kennedy and McDermott.
