This was a pretty drab cup tie between an off par City side and a Leicester team who came to Maine Road with one objective, to defend, defend, defend.
The Foxes rarely made it over the half way line, however City’s forward line were poor. except for Mike Summerbee, who looked dangerous, however he was kept in check by Sojberg and Cross, who doubled up against City’s tricky striker.

The best chance of the match fell to Colin Bell, Brian Crowther in The Guardian wrote ‘There was one drive by Bell however, that seemed to require a miracle to prevent its entering the net. Shilton, or anyone else, will never make a better save. The shot in the seventh minute, after Coleman had brought the ball within Bell’s range, was taken from the edge of the penalty area. Shilton, unsighted by defenders at the start, saw the ball in time; just in time even for one with feline reflexes’.
The teams meet in two days for the replay at Filbert Street.
