RODNEY MARSH SCORES TO GRAB ALL THE POINTS FOR CITY
Even with just six games of the season gone, no-one wants to see their team rock bottom of the league, and so a Rodney Marsh winner in City’s seventh game was cheered by the whole of Maine Road, as it lifted The Blues off bottom spot.
The first half was all about the mercurial Marsh, good and bad. Early on from a Mellor cross Marsh cracked in a tremendous low shot which Shilton athletically tipped round the post.
On the half hour the Leicester defence failed to deal with a ball in by Davies and Rodney pounced to score, what would be, the winning goal.
Then just three minutes later he hit the post. Two minutes before the break Rofe brought him down in the box and Marsh took the penalty himself, nonchalantly lifting the ball high into the corner, but unfortunately seeing it bounce back off the woodwork.
In the second half both teams struggled to raise their game above ‘below average’, Mike Summerbee being the only player excused as his performance was excellent, and he was a constant threat.
