Mike Doyle, replacing injured ‘keeper Keith Macrae in goal after only five minutes, was Manchester City’s hero at Leicester, before City were robbed by a late goal.
Doyle took over after Macrae pulled a hamstring in his left leg and had to be carried off on a stretcher.
Said manager Tony Book: “We don’t yet know how serious the injury is, but we are now left with Joe Corrigan as the only experienced ‘keeper on our books.”
But City couldn’t have picked a better man than Doyle for the ‘keeper’s job, for he twice pulled off brave saves to keep the Blues hopes alive. But was unluckily beaten in the last minute by Lee.

I went to this game at Filbert Street.
Westie , a Man City fan from Codsall,Wolverhampton.
I remember well the discussion between Man City players about who would go into goal for the remainder of the match.
I was at the pitch side and witnessed a heated debate about who would go in between the posts.
Colin Bell said o.k. I will do it and he took up the gloves.
The team realised that Colin was of better service in mid field so Mike Doyle took the gloves away from Colin Bell.
Mike had a great game in goal. We lost 1-0. a great effort from Man City. Sadly…both players no longer with us. What great times Man City and the loyal supporters gave to me over many years.
