FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 24TH FEBRUARY 1990
City’s run of games without a win continued as Leeds took a point from Maine Road in a 1-1 draw…
… the injured Tueart was still out and Robinson’s digestive system was in disarray, so Bennett and Palmer were central strikers. After 7 minutes, Palmer set up Bennett but Lukic had spotted the danger and raced out to intercept.
Leeds then turned the screws and City’s defence looked decidedly ragged. It was only Corrigan who prevented Leeds from turning round with a greater lead than 1-0. The goal came when Hird’s corner found debutant Firm and he in turn let in Graham who half-volleyed home. Gray, Graham and Connor all threatened to make the margin more emphatic before the interval. Big money signing Steve Daley was replaced by Nicky Reid after 61 minutes, and almost immediately, United’s lead was erased, courtesy of Paul Power.
