Ipswich are still convinced they are on target for European soccer next season, even though this was the first point they have picked up in four games.
Manager Bobby Robson said; that Newcastle, our closest rivals for a place in Europe, lost to West Ham.
“That gives us a three point lead over them, and if we can finish in fourth place that will guarantee our entry into Europe.”
Ipswich looked vastly improved after their dismal run but missed several chances which might have given them both points .
Robson said; “We’ve now stopped the rot, and I’m not complaining about the result.”
Manchester City extended their mini revival by collecting their third point in two games after a run of nine matches without a win.
City’s stars worked tirelessly under the guidance of caretaker manager Johnny Hart, and he said afterwards; “I was proud of all of them. They chased and ran hard for me and things now seem to be looking up for us.”
They spent most of the second half on the defensive, but Francis Lee claimed he was denied a 63rd minute penalty after being brought down by Colin Harper.
“I was a good two yards inside the box but the referee gave a free kick outside,” he said.
