Promotion talk was muted as City returned from their League game at Fulham, humbled by a side showing flair and adventure. The Londoners’ hat-trick hero was Gordon Davies, as Fulham romped home 5- 1.
Davies’s goals arrived within the space of 16 minutes in the first half, the first after 27 minutes, and to add to City’s woe McCarthy cracked a cross from Coney past his own ‘keeper to give the home side a 4-0 lead at the break. And after just two second-half
minutes it was 5-0, Rosenior heading in after a shot from Scott that Williams couldn’t hold.
Neil McNab scored his first goal for the Blues later but it was a sorry City that headed north.
