A very rare photograph taken prior to the game (special thanks to Paul Ward for supplying the photograph, Paul’s grandfather was Peter Percival, who passed away in 1960, in the picture Peter is stood to Frank Swifts right)
Once again many thanks to Paul Ward for the above photograph of the issue of Il Calcio Illustrato from 16th May 1934 which has great pictures from the game (click on picture to enlarge)
Thanks to Paul again for the action shot above
One of Citys scorers in this match, Peter Percival, was my grandfather (he passed away in 1960). I have many photos of the game mainly from original Ilalian newspapers which I have collected over the years. I will gladly share them
Paul Ward
My father scored in this game too!!
Jimmy Heale had signed in January from Bristol City for £3500. Sadly he was Cup Tied so wasn’t available to play in the Cup Final win. He did tell me that on this tour he played against City as a guest for Olympic Marseille.!!
Jimmy invited me to meet him at his house near Platt Lane around 1994, he told me of his memories playing for City at this time. In the team line up in the photo in Florence he is the other side of Frank Swift
City since 81 and Fiorentina since 83, 3-3 draw great, although in 30’s now city would win, I’m pretty sure of it.
