Manchester City tuned up for Wembley with a confidence-boosting show against relegated Crystal Palace at Maine Road.
Striker David Bennett was the man who put the Blues in charge with a brilliant headed goal from Tommy Hutchison’s cross after 14 minutes.
Joe Corrigan pulled off three fine saves to deny Palace in the first half before City took command after the interval.
Steve MacKenzie missed a great chance to put the Blues further ahead before Bennett thundered a screaming shot against the crossbar.
The Kevi Reeves went close for City, but his header was scooped off the line.
But City had to pay for their issed chances, when Ian Walsh moved in to claim an 80th minute equaliser for Palace…
