On a windy day for Palace’s last home game, and incidentally their lowest gate of the season, the toll of a third game began to tell in a poor game. Palace should have had the game sewn up as Bobby Kellard in midfield earned Palace most of the possession but despite providing a good enough service, the forwards managed to squander several chances and as so often happens in their first attack of the second half eleven minutes from the end City made an opening through Connor and Pardoe steered the ball wide of John Jackson.
Thus it seemed City would exact revenge but in the last seconds of the game Palace won a corner, Bobby Kellard took it and whilst City defenders were watching big Cliff Holton, Alan Stephenson nipped in to head home and score in his third home game on the trot.
