The Maine Road crowd were expecting a very entertaining, goal laden match from two, normally, attacking sides. However unlike the usual offensive minded Burnley team, the fans saw a resolute, defensive display that was more about stopping City scoring, than scoring themselves.
It was left to the Blues forwards to try and break down this Claret defensive wall, however without Young in the side they struggled, the best effort came from Colin Bell, which was brilliantly saved by Tony Waiters.
