CITY’S BRACE
FROM THE PRESS BOX
Trust Manchester City to make the last sixteen of the League Cup the hard way!
City clearly out-classed Blackpool in all aspects of skill, endeavour and ability, but fell down on the basic ingrediants of finishing.
But for all that this was an at times, exciting, pulsating and enjoyable third round replay at Bloomfield Road.
The Blues played at a helter skelter pace and it was perhaps their over eagerness to snatch the vital first goal that saw them fall down so often.
Even when Neil Young saw his shot turned into the net by John Craven after 22 minutes, City’s 4th round passport to Fulham was still not firmly stamped.
There was always the chance of Blackpool sneaking an equaliser, but perhaps the turning point came when young Joe Corrigan finally became the hero of the piece.
He went down well to save a 50th minute point blank range shot from Tony Green, and 16 minutes later Mike Summerbee sitting on the ground, prodded home the second and City were home and dry.
