PETER GARDNER WRITING IN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS 13TH NOVEMBER 1974
Manchester City chairman Peter Swales today launched a bitter attack on officials of Spanish League champions Barcelona.
He accused them of “Lacking common courtesy” when virtually snubbing the entire City party at a reception which followed this week’s friendly game in the Nou Camp Stadium.
The City chairman was so angry at the treatment his players in particular had received that he rang the Spanish club before leaving for home yesterday,
Said Mr Swales today: “I told them I was not happy about it and they apologised. But this will not be the end of the matter. I shall report back to the board and then I will follow up with a further letter of complaint to the Barcelona club.
“It was a lack of common courtesy on their part on Tuesday night. When we arrived at the reception there was no one to officially greet us.
There was not even a table reserved for us to sit at and our players had to wander around with plates in their hands trying to eat as best they could.

Barcelona were very nice in showering us with gifts, I’ve got more medals than Napoleon, but that means nothing to what happened at the reception when players were snubbed.”
The City chairman, manager Tony Book, and secretary Bernard Halford were guests of the Barcelona club, who are celebrating their 75th anniversary at a private dinner before the game, when leading FIFA officials also attended.
But Mr Swales added: “Again, that was all very nice for us, but I was more concerned and angry over the treatment later handed out to players of Manchester City. It was just not good enough.”
