So it was off to Highbury to resume the League quest the following Saturday. Maybe the best words to describe the game are “a gritty performance?‘ or “a dour battle“. The scribes of the day had mixed feelings, ranging from fascination to sheer boredom!
Whatever, it was a precious point for City as they held the Gunners to a goalless draw. It was Shinton’s debut for the Blues but he did little to make it noteworthy. It was also Caton’s 17th birthday and his performance might well make the game more memorable for him. As far as missed chances went, Stapleton was Arsenal’s principal guilty party, while Power and MacKenzie gave Jennings palpitations at times at the other end.
