Manchester City have been boosted by the fitness of two players 3,000 miles apart.
From the desert sands of Saudi Arabia, Imre Varadi is shaking off an ankle knock which forced him out of Saturday’s important victory over Charlton Athletic.
And at Maine Road Neil McNab is ready to declare hiself fit to face new First Division leaders Arsenal on Saturday.
From Jeddah where the Blues last night beat local side Al Ahli 3-1 in the first outing of their two-match Middle East autumn tour, manager Jimmy Frizell told me: “Varadi has made a quite dramatic recovery from his ankle knock. It seemed a quite severe injury at first, but despite that we decided to take him to Saudi. It has paid off, for with Roy Bailey giving him treatment, Imre is now walking freely and hopefully he will be fit by weekend.”
… Mick McCarthy missed the sunshine break because the Saudis refused his visa application.
Paul Moulden was again on the mark in last night’s win giving City the lead with the locals equalising before half time.
Darren Beckford took over from Moulden in the second half and he and Steve Redmond scored the goals that provided City with their win in 80 degeees of desert heat, when Ian Scott and Paul Lake stepped into the senior spotlight.
A crowd of almost 14,000 saw the game in which Frizzell described the opposition as “skilful but with few ideas of how to make headway.”
