STEVIE IRELAND SCORES CITY’S FIRST GOAL
MANCHESTER CITY boss Mark Hughes saw his team of stars downed by David Weir’s last-minute winner.
Hughes’ visitors started the game with mega-bucks recruits Gareth Barry, Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure.
But Rangers struck the first blow when Nacho Novo rifled home from six yards after 20 minutes.
Seven minutes later, City levelled matters as Adebayor’s cross was converted by Stephen Ireland.
Adebayor dragged a shot wide before City winger Martin Petrov showed the ex-Arsenal ace how to finish six minutes after the break.
But Gers’ Kenny Miller levelled soon afterwards. And the hosts snatched the win in the final minute when skipper Weir fired in.
Hughes now hopes another of his big-money signings, Carlos Tevez, will not be picked to play in Argentina’s friendly away to Russia next week.
The striker has a heel injury. And boss Sparky said: “He’s had one training session in the whole of pre-season so for him to go into an international would be crazy. We hope there will be sense shown there.”
