An entertaining evening at the Racecourse Ground with six goals, plenty of endeavour and a chance for the Blues’ travelling fans to see some of the new signings made during the summer. On a balmy North Wales evening, Ishmael Miller opened the scoring for City on six minutes, chesting down a Joey Barton cross and finishing neatly. Miller, Antoine Sibierski and Darius Vassell all could have increased the lead before Wrexham drew level through Chris Llewellyn on 35 minutes. Joe Hart and Ousmane Dabo were both making their first appearances for the club and Hart was the only player to remain from the starting 11 as Stuart Pearce brought on 10 replacements to start the second half.

Paul Dickov received a hero’s welcome from the City fans as he was announced to the crowd and Didi Hamann also appeared for the first time in a blue shirt. But it was Georgios Samaras who shone the brightest, putting City back in front with a deflected shot from outside the box seven minutes after the break. Wrexham fought back quickly to make it 2-2 through Matt Done seven minutes later, but Samaras restored City’s advantage with a sweet curling drive from 25 yards on 65 minutes. There was one more twist in the tale, however, with Sylvain Distin’s attempt to cut out a cross ending in an own goal to once again level the scores at 3-3. Overall, it was a decent work-out with Hamann and Dabo’s quality evident throughout.
