FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 27TH MARCH 1989
…There were chances galore for both teams. Corrigan saved brilliantly from Rafferty in the opening minute, then Richards shot over. The Blues went down to the other end, firstly Channon putting an easy chance the wrong side of a post, then Owen forcing Bradshaw to save bravely, but soon after the Blues were trailing. After 33 minutes Corrigan could only punch Daniel’s accurate cross to Carr who slammed the ball home.
Henry cleared one off the line from Hibbitt seconds after the interval and Richards was unlucky to see his shot cannon away off a post. Channon lobbed the ball over the bar but then City equalised after Bames drew Bradshaw off his line and fed the ball to Channon.
