From an interview with Peter Barnes in the City programme 19th September 2015
It was always going to be tough in Germany. They had the Danish international Allan Simonsen in attack, he was a great player and had won the Ballon d’Or.
Malcolm Allison had returned to City and things were not great behind the scenes. He was experimenting with line-ups and left on the bench, can you believe this, Kaziu Deyna, Colin Bell and Brian Kidd; three men who had achieved so much in European football and were very knowledgeable and influential when we played overseas.
We lost, obviously! Let’s just say that at the end of the game a few of the players didn’t hold back with one shouting “There’s your tactics, Mal!”
