A GREAT PENALTY FROM ELANO TO OPEN THE SCORING
A spirited second half performance failed to earn Villa any reward after they had been badly out of sorts before the interval. Shaun Wright-Phillips was a constant thorn in Villa’s side and after firing wide from an inviting position he was brought down by the back-tracking James Milner, presenting Elano with the opportunity to open the scoring with a 24th minute penalty.
Villa reshuffled their line-up at the break and the” switches made a massive difference, until Wright-Phillips put the issue beyond doubt by stroking a low shot past Brad Friedel in the 89th minute.
