It was clear that many of the City side had the European Cup Winners Cup replay, coming up on Wednesday, on their minds, as West Brom dominated the game, and there were three reasons the Baggies failed to take both points from the game.
The first was young keeper Ron Healey who belied his age with an excellent performance between the sticks.
The second was the inspirational Colin Bell. On the two occasions Healey was beaten with goal-bound efforts, Bell was there on two occasions to head the ball off the line, and on the rare occasions City got forward it was the power and skill of Bell that drove them forward.
Thirdly City had to thank the woodwork, as on two occasions the ball struck the post, rather than the back of the Blues’ net.
