Consider the facts behind the scoreline before decrying Manchester City’s sluggish performance against Newcastle at Maine Road.
Without key defenders Tony Book and Tommy Booth they had world-class forwards in Francis Lee and Colin Bell looking far from fit.
Mike Doyle, like Bell and skipper Book, were also suffering from the mystery bug that has struck the Blues, and a fresh assessment of the circumstances makes a 1-1 draw seem a highly satisfactory result.

Bell and Doyle, despite their sickness, combined to add the finishing touches with Doyle powering a fearsome headed goal to wipe out David Ford’s effort in the 61st minute.

The City goalkeeper had earlier saved a 39th minute penalty in a fascinating game where Newcastle revealed themselves as highly competent opponents…
